faq

are these photographs for sale?

As a general rule, the  work in the galleries and exhibitions is part of my collection and not for sale.  Sale items are located in the store.  That being said, as there is always some turnover, if you're interested in a particular image, drop me a line and I'll let you know whether it's available.

can i license these images for commercial use?
PLEASE NOTE: copyright of attributed photographs on this site (displayed here for purely informational purposes) remains with the original copyright owner and may not be reproduced in any medium/media without express permission from them (or their agents).  Please see the copyright notice page.  Licensing any other material (unattributed vernacular or snapshot images) in the collection for limited commercial use might be possible.  Please email me your request with as much specific information (where the image will be used, number of imprints, etc.) as you can provide.

can i use these images on my website and in other media?

Again, PLEASE NOTE: copyright of attributed photographs on this site (displayed here for purely informational purposes) remains with the original copyright owner and may not be reproduced in any medium/media without express permission from them (or their agents).  Please see the copyright notice page.

Use of any other material (unattributed vernacular or snapshot images) on personal websites/blogs/social media may be permitted, but only with appropriate attribution.  Attribution must read in full: from the collection of nigel maister/foundphotographs.com.  If you use images without asking, I shall insist that the images be removed.

Is the collection, as a whole, for sale?

The short answer is "yes."  The long answer is "yes, but..."  let's talk.

where do you get these images?

From many different sources.  The vast majority--especially the snapshots--are bought on Ebay.  That being said, as I have become more experienced and educated as a collector, dealers (including some superb Ebay dealers), galleries and auction houses have all become places to find images. A list of galleries and sellers is available on the dealers & resources page.  Look at their offerings.  you'll learn a lot (and buy even more).

i have snapshots/photographs to sell.  do you buy photographs?
Of course!  I'd love to see what you have to sell and am always looking to acquire new images.  Send me an email and we can take things from there.
